Bad Scratches

Radcliff, Allie, Luna & Ozzie suggested that I try to ask around to see whether there is anyone who is interested in adopting the Night Visitor. Actually, that was my initial thought. I planned to bring the Night Visitor to the vet for a check-up after a few weeks when he is used to being around me. If there is no major illness, I can then try to put him up for adoption.

On Sunday, I changed my mind. I was coming back from an early breakfast with my parents. The cat was waiting for me at my front door. When I opened my door, he tried to rush inside the house. I do not want him near the Spice Cats yet as he is not vaccinated and I am not sure whether he carry any diseases. So, on impulse, I used my right leg to block his entry. I must have startled him as he grabbed hold of my leg and started scratching and biting me!

The wounds, that Sunday afternoon. It looked pretty OK, so i sorta ignored if after I put some anti-septic.

But slowly, the wound started to hurt and my leg slowly started to get swollen. On Sunday night, my friend brought me to the clinic. The doctor cleaned my wound, gave me an injection and some medication.

This is how it looks on Monday. The foot was slightly swollen and it was even painful to walk.

There are also some scratches underneath my foot.

This is taken on Tuesday night, still a bit swollen, but not as painful.

By Wednesday, it was not painful to walk anymore, although the foot was still a bit swollen.

I am quite annoyed that my training at the gym is interrupted. The doctor said that I must keep the wound dry at all times to prevent infection. So, I had to put a plastic bag over my right foot when I shower. Gym is allowed as sweat will wet the wound.

This is a good reminder to myself. I should be more careful around stray cats. I am so used to being around the Spice Cats who will never hurt me on purpose that I was careless. I will be much more careful next time.

Those are really bad scratches, but what happened with the night visitor? Can you take him to a local no-kill shelter maybe? I am worried about the night visitor....he has probably had some bad breaks, and needs some help.

Oh, wow. We're so sorry that happened. We all hope you're feeling better.

Cat scratches can look nasty, but really aren't that bad. But cat bites, especially deep ones, are about guaranteed to get infected.

We appreciate your efforts on behalf of the Night Visitor, but you might want to keep a cane or stick by the door. That way, you can (gently) push (not beat!) the Visitor away from the door without getting mauled. The Food Source has a stick he keeps he keeps on the porch for that purpose. (it helps with raccoons, too)

Hope things work out for you and the Visitor, both.

Oh wow, ouch! That looks painful! I think it's amazing how you are helping the visitor and I am sure he didn't mean to hurt you on purpose - he was probably scared.

I echo the first comment - is there a no-kill shelter in your area you can take him to? I hope your foot is feeling better soon!

Oh my, your poor foot! Cat scratches & bites can be very dangerous, even when they're from your own cat. Years ago a friend's cat, who was healthy and well cared-for, bit my daughter's arm, not a very deep bite at all. Even though we cleaned and treated it, the next day she ended up in the hospital for almost two weeks and almost lost her hand!

Oh, your leg and foot looks bad :(. Your food with punctures is terribly swollen still :(. But, I think Night Visitor didn't know what he was doing, and just out if instinct bit and scratched you. I think he sees a good thing inside your house, and really wants it too. I am so sorry he hurt you so badly.

I did that to my human about 6 months ago cuz I got spooked. Her arm dripped blood all through the house on the way to the bathroom, and she yelled "OUCH!" a lot. Then the next day her arm got really big and sore with big puncture wounds and be scratches. Then, she was mad at me for days, and then I got mad at her for being mad at me. We became friend again after her arm stopped hurting.
