I've been looking around for a covered Litter Box around my neighbourhood pet store for sometime now. And last week, I saw one and immediately bought it. I am just tired of always having to clean the litter sand all around the litter box.
The 2 male Spice Cats were the first to check it out.
I put Garlic into the Litter Box first. They need to learn to use the plastic door.
He just sat there, looking at me, confused.
Sesame tried to get him out.
When Sesame failed, they both just sat there, looking at me, confused.
Mmmmm....the Spice Cats are not very bright, are they?
I got Garlic out and put Sesame inside the Litter Box.
Sesame tried to get out, but failed.

Since the Spice Cats are not that smart. I removed the door so that they will get used to the new Litter Box. Maybe I will put the door back on this weekend.
Ginger and Pepper are smarter. They managed to get out from the Litter Box in less than 1 minute. Female are smarter? Mmmm....
So I close the Laundry Room door (the old Litter Box was in the Laundry Room) and kept my fingers crosed that the Spice Cats will use the new Litter Box. And they did :)

How cute these "follow up" pictures ! and yes I think girls are smarter. But you can forget the door, they probably will never get used to it, I tried it too and then I even had to remove the top, they all got claustrophobia in there so at the end it just was a normal litter box again. But of course they don't use it often because they go out.
Can you please put the COT logo on top of your post ? Just to show that you are participating. Thanks.
A new litter box is always a scary venture. Interesting that your girls figured it out though! Yeah girls!
I love the photos. Very funny post!
It was the same when we put in the cat door to the garage where the cats had their litter boxes... now they race back and forth making quite the flapping racket.
We had a couple of those littermaid boxes that raked the litter ten minutes after the cat used the facilities. They burned the motors out in a year, just a few days after the warranty of course. I think they would get in, do a tiny bit or just dig and then sit outside the box and wait to see the rake move. No wonder they burned the motors up!
We have the standard litter boxes at our house. Found that even with the cover, litter went everywhere. We gave up. Our cats won't use the door kind. Good luck to you.
D :)
I hope the get used to the new box. Your cats are gorgeous by the way!
Have a great Tuesday!
Wow, we have never even seen litter boxes with doors - we're pretty sure we wouldn't know what to do with those boxes. Those were smart girl Spice Cats but we love all of the pictures!
Purrrrrs, China Cat & Willow
Amazing pictures. They looks so frustrated. But, they will get used to it.
We've only have had female cats , for the past 18 years.... say no more.
Closed litter box, like this one, I've never seen. Great invention.
That's a great new litterbox! I'm glad all of you eventually figured it out!
I've never seen a litter tray with a lid before but it seems like a fine plan! Let me know how it goes - if it prevents a floorful of litter it would be fab.
They are all such gorgeous cats...all those beautiful tails. Oh my!! Just love the pictures and commentary...hope this works out for all.

I think girlcats are the smartest! But I have never seen a litter box with a door before. If it works, that is a good design to keep the litter in. Garlic's expression is priceless!
The look on Garlic's face is hysterical - almost like he is saying, I'm going to be trapped in here with my stink?
What a funny sight that was. I got quite a laugh. I've been looking for a covered litterbox for Gretchen. Haven't found one I like so far. They all look so small. Since she's been a kitten I upturned a TV box over her litter pan. I cut a door and holes to look out of. I did that in a desperate attempt to cover the litter box before my family came to Thanksgiving Dinner and I haven't changed it. She has a bed on top of it and aside from the advertizing on the sides, it looks pretty good. I was always going to decorate it, but never have.
Your pictures are great -- the kitties are so funny as they investigate this new object. I have covered litter boxes, which are a true boon after the way the cats used to flip piles of litter everywhere outside the old uncovered boxes. I wouldn't try a door with one, as I'm sure my cats would be thoroughly flummoxed by it. I'm glad your pretty cats decided they liked your covered box without the door!
This post is a riot! I laughed out loud for real. The photos are hilarious. They were so confused! Your cats are so gorgeous, too. They are well groomed (it must take a lot of time!)
Garlic probably thought this was a new-style Prison Transport Unit.
I like the way the Spice cats checked out the new litter box. The door really got them puzzled. The mat with paw prints from Germany will catch the litter sand in the grooves. Let us know whether it solved your problem of litter sand all over your floor.
I tried one with a cover but King doesn't know how to bury, so he would walk in, do his business, and then turn around and walk through it and walk around the house leaving a MESS. But I'm pretty sure your cats are waaaay smarter than King.
My mommy told me not to bury when she sees me doing it because she will clear it immediately. I just jump out and let her do the work. I will bury it when she is not around.
Haha...Sesame is not that smart in burying either. He will try very hard but always end up getting the litter sand everywhere BUT the poo.
