My Loyal Protector

So far, ever since I moved to Blogspot, my blog has been dedicated to my cats. I want to dedicate this post to Winter, my loyal friend and protector.

Winter is a gem. She is a 5 years old mixed breed. Maybe even a Dalmatian mixed breed, from the look of her coat. A friend picked her up from the streets and gave it to me when she was just about 2-3 months old.

For those of you who had read my previous post, knows that she does not tolerate intruders well. She has killed a total of 4 civet cats (musang) and 5 rats so far. How she managed to capture the civet cats and rats are beyond me. From the bodies we found, there were no traces of blood, so we suspect she killed her victims with one fatal bite on the neck.

Though she is a brutal killer, she is amazingly gentle with my cats. Well, gentle in a way. She is still a too rough for my cats liking when she is trying to get them to play with her. On Merdeka day, Pepper showed some curiosity towards Winter when I opened the back glass door to hang my clothes. I stood there and observed them. Pepper went close to Winter, trying to smell Winter. Winter, as usual, was wagging her tail when she saw Pepper moving close. Then out of the blue, Pepper turned aggressive, hissed and clawed then moved away.

I did not notice anything at first. Pepper ran back to Sesame, and Winter just sat there, crying. I patted her head and she was still crying. So I bent down in front of Winter, asking her what is wrong. As I looked closely, I noticed that there is a small drop of blood forming at her nose, barely noticeable. Pepper managed to claw Winter’s nose! And Winter did not turned aggressive nor retaliate. She just sat there and cried to let me know she has been hurt. It was a very small scratch. When I rubbed her nose, she went back to wagging her tail and trying to lick my face. I examined her nose and face to make sure there are no hidden scratches. Both Pepper and Winter are vaccinated so I am not too worried. After I patted Winter, she was back to her normal self, running about when I went out to hang the clothes.

Winter is a very smart dog. She knows the difference between the cats, my pets, our family, and the intruders. You protect your family from intruders. And when a family member hurts you, you do not hold it against them, you do not seek for revenge, and you still love them all the same.

When Winter is still a baby, and below is her now.

If you have a dog as your pet, it does have "heart" one to owner and it family members. Unfortunately, cat does not have heart as dog. According to survey that I read before, cat does have a few owner one, so don't be surprise if your cat bite you when accidentally touch it feeding bowl. So, cat will not cry if you dump your cat to other people.Well, looks like Winter is a sweet old dog. Go Winter Go... She is a old and lonely dog at your back yard. Get Winter a partner, she is lonely leh coz there is no other dog in this house to accompany her.

Haha.... Whatever you mean by Cat not having a 'heart', it is true that a dog is more loyal and much more willing to please its owner than a cat. But cats knows and respects its owner, Well, at least all my cats do. They do not bite me. Sometimes they try to playfully, but a loud 'NO' or 'OUCH' and they will stop.

Scratches, however, is quite common. Winter sometimes accidently give me some scratches too, when she tried to jump up on me. For some reason, Winter do not likes other dogs. She is aggressive to most of the dogs she met. However, she seems to like cats.

I guess with all the pets, whether its dogs or cats, you need to induce the discipline in them. You must teach them that you are the boss and they must respect you. Of course, you need to give them a lot of love and they will give it back to you unconditionally.

Winter has a face of a Husky. eSpecially at the tip of the brows.

iT's really hard rare for a dog not to attack a cat. bUt for your case, i pressume they grew up together?

Nope. They did not grow up together. Winter was introduced to a family cat when he was about 3.5 years old. I didnt trust her with my cats at first as she has a bad history of killing civet cats. But somehow, when one of my cat managed to crawl outdoor (I do not let them go out door anymore because I am afraid they will get stolen or ran over by a car), Winter just licked my cat until he is all wet! I guess my cat knew that Winter would not do them any harm.

It is indeed quite amazing. I will try to post a video of Winter and Shadow (who is missing since June) later. The love Winter shows Shadow and all my cats is truly rare.

Hahaha.. Pepper is both curious and defensive at the same time. Poor Winter got a scratch. anyway, bare in mind that although both ur dog n cat received their vaccinations, they only protect them from harmful diseases. for external injuries, best to make sure they are not inflame by putting diluted Dettol or prescribed antiseptic cream.

Pepper and Winter look sweet; obviously destined to be pals.

Before Malaysia we always had cats and dogs together. Our dogs have usually been below the cats in pecking order, but it's amazing how they team up to ask for treats, walks, and squizzles! I miss that sort of fun...
